Ariel - 1974 Cal 2-46 |
The Cal 2-46 followed in the wake of the venerable Cal 40, a boat that revolutionized the design of
racer cruisers. Bill Lapworth, the designer of the Cal 40, conceived of the Cal 2-46 as a shallow draft, fairly narrow beam
boat that was also a seakindly, fast motorsailer. They are easily handled by a cruising couple and more than capable of sailing
to far-off anchorages. Or if staying close to home is more your forte, the Cal 2-46 will be a most accommodating liveaboard.
With raised house, comfortable salon and well appointed galley, ARIEL is an excellent example of this well found boat.
We are about to find out if the above is true.

Latest boat trivia
We just rebuilt one of the heads (read: toilet). That was a fun job. I could not believe how many different parts and
gaskets it had.
We just bought 250 feet of new chain and it is HEAVY. To get it on the boat, I have to grab the first 25 feet
and drag it towards the boat, then go back to the car and grab the next 25 feet and drag it where the first section is. So,
to traverse the 400 feet from the car to the boat I have to carry the 25 foot sections 10 times for every 20 feet and repeat
the entire process twenty times. Maybe I will get a cart instead...
